Product Design Minor

Minor Overview

Effective Spring 2017: we have reached space capacity for the PD minor program and are currently not accepting new minor applications.

The product design (PD) minor has been designed to give students a strong exposure to the theoretical and practical skills necessary for understanding the field of design. It includes a selection of courses from product design, foundation, and art history. The product design minor appeals to students with a general interest in design or those who have a major in a related field.

The design process involves a combination of research, creative strategies and decision-making methods that can be directly applied to problems in every area of study. The growing popularity of design thinking, which applies design methods outside of the creative arts to areas such as business, medicine, and sociological sciences among others, has created interest in product design courses from students in many curricular areas across the University of Oregon. The PD minor allows students in any discipline the opportunity to supplement their chosen major with the added perspective gained through the study of product design.

Required Courses

Students who wish to be product design minors must apply to the Department of Product Design. They will be required to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and have taken PD 101. The applicant's GPA, PD 101 grade, and ability to finish the PD minor curriculum on schedule for graduation will all be considered in the admissions process.
