Product Design Bachelor of Fine Arts undergraduate students begin their education on the Eugene campus. They take courses offered by the Product Design Department, as well as courses in Art, Art & Technology, History of Art and Architecture, and Interior Architecture programs. The liberal arts focus of the UO offers product design students the opportunity to work directly with peers from many other disciplines, increasing their capacities to connect, grow, and develop futures with people of many interests and knowledge bases. The final year of the PD BFA program is located at the UO's Portland campus.
Courses Open to Nonmajors
We invite you to explore your interest in design. We offer an introductory course to nonmajors.
PD 101 Introduction to Product Design. Explore how designers invent things that help people. Through lectures from designers, drawing assignments, photo documentation, model-making, storytelling, and computer-aided deisgn, students learn about product innovation, creation, and sales, and portfolio creation.
Unparalleled Workshops by Students
Explore mini-workshops from Product Design’s faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students, and affiliated professional designers, who provide free drawing, building, sewing, planning, and presenting workshops. From the science behind footwear to rendering in real time, these five-minute tutorials introduce you to what being a designer is really like.
Faculty Spotlight
Associate Professor of Product Design Kiersten Muenchinger has received the 2020 Excellence in Remote Teaching Award from the University of Oregon for her exceptional efforts in transforming face-to-face courses into engaging and inclusive remote instruction during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I coordinated with a Springfield 55-plus community to have residents be the ‘users’ interviewed for design research. Through this, students and community members connected regularly and purposefully during the pandemic.”
