Salter creates huge robots for exhibit in Colorado gallery

A gigantic Styrofoam robot has commandeered a Colorado art gallery through March, thanks to Oregon artist and educator Michael Salter.

Wojick work to show at Portland gallery

Amanda Wojick usually creates art that is “intentionally fragile” using ordinary materials such as paint chips, linoleum flooring, Band-Aids, polystyrene, and different kinds of paper to create small and large abstract sculptures and drawings.

Entries for inflatable architecture design contest due Feb. 1

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (JSMA) and Master Capital Management are hosting an inflatable architecture design contest inspired by the 1970s designs of an experimental architectural group and artist collective. Submissions are due February 1.

Mark Sponenburgh, artist, faculty member, UO donor, dies

Sculptor and educator Mark Sponenburgh died December 6, 2012, at his home on the Oregon Coast. He was 94. He taught at the University of Oregon School of Architecture and Allied Arts from 1946 to 1957.

Art writer Terry R. Myers to give Fowler Lecture January 17

Terry R. Myers will deliver the Fowler Lecture at 6 p.m. January 17 on the University of Oregon campus, 177 Lawrence Hall, 1190 Franklin Boulevard, Eugene.
