Twenty-three firms looking to hire A&AA graduates participated in the three-day 2015 Recruitment Fair sponsored by the Office of Professional Outreach and Development for Students (PODS) in Lawrence Hall recently. Recruiters lined up along two floors in the halls of Lawrence, meeting students where they live and learn.
“Recruiters continue to turn to UO grads for talent,” says Kassia Dellabough, director of PODS. “Over eighty percent of the recruiters were alumni seeking more talent from A&AA. The halls were abuzz with energy as approximately 250 students met with potential employers—nine of those firms stayed for Friday interviews that lasted almost all day and met with over forty students.”
Judith Sheine, head of the UO Department of Architecture, held a roundtable after the fair to discuss trends in the industry and get feedback about the program. “Recruiters were impressed with the talents and the balanced program that produces a strong mix of concept and practical knowledge,” Dellabough said.
"We met wonderful candidates this year,” said Grace Tilton, BArch ‘09, of Perkins + Will in Seattle. “We love to see the progression of work and maintain our relationships with students and professors alike."
The number of participating firms is a twenty percent increase over last year’s presence by recruiting firms.
“We anticipate many students landed jobs and summer internships,” Dellabough said.
The firms and organizations that participated in this year’s fair included: Andersen Construction Company; Ankrom Moisan Architects, Inc.; BLRB Architects; Callison; City of Eugene Cultural Services Division; CTA Architects Engineers; Dahlin Group Architecture Planning; Field Paoli Architects; Gensler; IA Interior Architects; Lane County Historical Museum; LPA, Inc.; Mackenzie; MulvannyG2 Architecture; Perkins+Will; PIVOT Architecture; Rowell Brokaw Architects, Inc.; Stafford King Wiese Architects; Teach for America; Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.; WMB Architects; ZGF; and the U.S. Navy.
