The Art & Technology cohort in the School of Art + Design (A+D) are hard at work creating new and exciting pieces for the upcoming Pop-up Shop on Friday, February 14. The upcoming event is an opportunity to support the program and an opportunity for the students to put their talents and creativity to work and gain valuable, real-world experience.

"By being a patron of our shop, you help support the individual local artists and the BFA cohort in general," explained Logan Sov, co-organizer of the Pop-up Shop. "With money earned from the shop, we are able to further purchase supplies for future projects and events. Each artist also benefits from the experience and skills developed from this event that can help give us better career opportunities."

From 11 am to 4 pm, the shop will sell a variety of student-made in the heart of Lawrence Hall. Pop-up shops are pretty common on campus, with a variety of students showcasing their talents or products in front of the EMU or other school facilities. Like the fall jewelry sale, this year's Art and Technology pop-up will bring a variety of student-made goods ranging from t-shirts to earrings to 3D prints and more.

"Pop-up shops are pretty common nowadays; they’re short-term shops that ‘pop up’ to sell all sorts of goods. As for us, we’re selling t-shirts, prints, stickers, earrings, and 3D prints," said Kristopher Chu, co-organizer of the Pop-up Shop. "Most of us were interested in dipping our toes in to the world of being an independent artist with a storefront like at an artist alley or a clothing pop-up. This is our first foray into this kind of thing, although some of our members have experience through Michael Salter’s Communication Design class. Big shout out to him, Lyndsey Billington, Jeff Billington, Chan Adkins, and Claire Webb for helping us make this happen!"

Thanks to this upcoming shop, each student in the cohort will have a unique opportunity to showcase their skill and creativity in Lawrence Hall while also gaining valuable real-world experience.

"Anyone can come! Students, professors, and visitors are all welcome to our pop-up shop. By even stopping by and purchasing anything, people get the opportunity to meet the artists and learn their craft," said Sov. "This shop is an opportunity to introduce ourselves to the public and show our work."

The public event is an excellent opportunity to meet the students and to even find a unique, original gift for the upcoming holiday.

"We’ll be selling t-shirts with custom designs, handmade earrings, original 3D model figures, original stickers, and original prints," explained Chu. "It feels a bit silly to say, but that really is the selling point of all of this: they’re all original. We made all of these designs and we want to share them with you."

The event will run from 11 am until 4 pm on Friday, February 14 in Lawrence Hall.
