Located at our Portland campus, the master of science in sports product design prepares designers to be key members and leaders of multidisciplinary development teams within the more than 800 sports product companies located in Oregon and beyond. The program focuses on innovation methodology, athletic performance, sustainability, and sports product marketing and branding.
Students expand their toolboxes with a deep, specific study of sports product methods, tools and technologies, human physiology, biomechanics, and perception. Our graduates are working in design roles at all of the major athletic brands, or branching off to start their own companies.
Design for Every Body
The Sports Product Design program welcomes prospective students to view work from our current master’s students virtually. See if this dynamic design graduate program—centered in the heart of downtown Portland, the home of the sports industry—might be right for you.
The Student Experience
With a mechanical engineering undergraduate degree from Stanford and his love of sports, Kodi Whitfield navigated the transition from football player to sports product design graduate student at the University of Oregon smoothly. Now an alumni of the program, Kodi is working as an assistant footwear designer for adidas.
Campus and Community
Our students study in the historic and recently renovated White Stag Block, where studios and workspaces overlook Waterfront Park and downtown Portland. Students in the Sports Product Design program have access to state of the art equipment in the Innovation Lab, which provides a workshop for shaping materials with both digital design and woodworking processes, and an output room provides students with graphic printing services.
The Sports Product Design faculty members are leaders in both innovative design and academic research. Through seminars, studios, and independent studies, students interact with inspiring and diverse scholars and professionals from the local and international sports product industry.
